A Classic Pool Escape in Bohemia, NY
This Bohemia, NY project centered on a spacious in-ground swimming pool with beautiful water features. The biggest challenge was the unusual shape of the yard. Since the pool could not be lined up squarely with the house, our designers created two separate areas, the pool surround and a distinct elevated patio, that still flow together as one elegant and functional outdoor living space.
Stone Pillar Water Features
Stone pillars built with Techo-Bloc Mini-Creta Architectural in Chestnut Brown stand along the edge of the pool, each sending a sheet of water spilling into the pool. Deck jets arc across the water alongside them, adding movement and the relaxing sound of falling water. A diving board at the end of the pool adds to the fun.
Unilock Treo Pavers with a Transition Border
The patio and pool surround are built with Unilock Treo pavers in Tuscany, with Unilock Transition pavers in Desert Valley used for the border and accents. The warm tones give the backyard a classic look, and the border helps define the separate areas of the design.
An Elevated Patio and New Stoop
The elevated patio sits closer to the house, with curved steps and stone pillars marking the transition down to the pool level. A new stoop leads to the back door, making it easy to move between the kitchen and the patio.
Lighting That Separates the Spaces
Outdoor lighting fixtures on the pillars provide illumination at night and create a visual separation between the patio and the pool surround. Planting beds with flowers and shrubs along the patio edge round out the landscape design.
The Result
Splitting the design into a pool surround and an elevated patio turned an awkward yard shape into a real strength. Each area has its own purpose, but the shared pavers, borders and stone pillars make them feel like one space. The water features give the pool a classic, resort-style look, and the lighting makes the whole backyard just as inviting at night.
