A Stylish Hosting Space on Long Island
This Long Island backyard shows what a creative, well-balanced layout can do. The homeowners wanted areas for cooking, serving cocktails, dining and swimming, and they wanted guests to move easily from one to the next. Our team delivered a complete overhaul that fits it all into the yard while leaving open space for people to mingle and lounge.
A Raised Pool with Stone Veneer and Deck Jets
The pool is set up off the patio with a raised wall faced in stacked stone veneer. Stone pillars topped with planters line the back edge, and water jets arc from the wall into the pool for a fun, elegant touch. The shape of the pool was designed to make the most of the available space while leaving the patio wide open.
Stacked Stone Outdoor Bar
The serving bar is the hub of the party. Built from stacked stone with a granite countertop, the outdoor bar and grill has room for a row of bar stools and sits within easy reach of the pool and dining area. Its placement keeps traffic flowing and gives the host a clear view of the whole backyard.
Unilock Pavers for a Smooth, Elegant Base
The patio and pool surround are built with Unilock concrete pavers in a smooth, light finish. The large open patio has plenty of room for a long dining table under an umbrella and a separate lounge area with outdoor furniture, and the consistent paver color ties every zone together.
Gardens and Privacy Plantings
A row of arborvitae along the fence adds privacy, and landscaping with flowering shrubs and small trees adds pops of color and softens the hardscape. The result is a calming retreat for rest, play and conversation.
The Result
Even with a pool, a bar, a dining area and a lounge, this backyard never feels crowded. Every element was placed to keep people moving and leave open space in the middle of the patio, which is what makes it such an easy place to host. The raised pool wall, stone pillars and bar all share the same stacked stone, giving the design a polished, consistent look from every angle.
