Casual Elegance in Melville, NY
This Melville, NY backyard blends a relaxed, family-friendly layout with high-end Cambridge materials. The homeowners wanted separate spaces for swimming, dining and gathering around a fire, and a yard that worked with its changes in grade. Our team delivered a bi-level paver patio, new retaining walls, a multi-level stoop and a pool surround that ties it all together.
A Bi-Level Paver Patio
The paver patios are built with Cambridge Ledgestone IV with 18×18 slabs in Toffee/Onyx Lite, bordered with Cambridge 6×9 RoundTable pavers in Onyx Natural. The darker border outlines each area and adds definition to the large surfaces. The upper level holds the dining area and a built-in fire pit, while the lower level surrounds the pool.
Retaining Walls Between the Pool and Patio
New retaining walls separate the pool and patio levels, finished with Cambridge Canyon Ledge stone veneer in Santa Fe. Landscape plantings along the walls soften the transition, and Cambridge Cast Stone in Bluestone was used for the wall caps and stair treads, giving every edge a clean, finished look.
A Multi-Level Stoop and Walkways
A multi-level stoop with coordinating stone veneer steps down from the house, and walkways and stairways connect every part of the yard. The same materials repeat throughout, so moving from space to space feels natural.
A Rectangular Pool with Bullnose Coping
The rectangular pool is finished with Cambridge Bullnose coping in Onyx Natural. Its wide paver deck has room for a row of lounge chairs, a seating area and a dining table, and a built-in fire pit with a seat wall gives the family a place to gather after a swim.
The Result
The Cambridge materials give this backyard a high-end look while keeping it comfortable and welcoming for everyday family life. Using retaining walls to separate the levels created distinct spaces for dining, lounging and swimming, and the repeated Onyx Natural borders, coping and treads pull every level together. The result is a backyard that feels casual to live in and elegant to look at.
