Sunny Poolside Living in Smithtown, NY
This Smithtown, NY backyard was built for summer. The homeowners wanted a place to swim, cook, eat and unwind without ever going back inside. Our team designed a complete outdoor living space around a freeform pool, with a built-in outdoor kitchen, a fire pit seating area and a warm-toned paver patio with lighting, walkways and steps.
A Freeform Pool with Natural Accents
The freeform pool is framed by a paver deck with a smooth, rounded coping. Natural boulders, ornamental grasses and hydrangeas along the edge give the pool a relaxed, organic feel, and large blue planters add a pop of color around the deck.
Outdoor Kitchen with Bar Seating
The outdoor kitchen includes a built-in stainless grill, refrigerator and granite-topped bar with seating. It is set on its own curved section of the patio, framed by a hedge, so the cook has plenty of room and guests have a front-row seat.
Fire Pit and Lounge Seating
A fire pit and seating area give the family a spot to gather in the evening after a day at the pool. A curved seating section overlooking the water adds another place to relax and keeps the whole layout flowing.
Paver Patio, Walkways and Lighting
The patio is laid in warm, tan-toned pavers with cobblestone borders that outline the pool and planting beds. Curved steps connect the upper dining area outside the house to the pool level, and integrated landscape lighting keeps the space safe and inviting after dark.
The Result
This backyard delivers everything a family needs for summer on Long Island in one connected space. The warm pavers and cobblestone borders tie the pool, kitchen and dining areas together, while the boulders, grasses and flowering plantings keep it from ever feeling too formal. With lighting throughout, the fun continues well after sunset.
